Cambodia Gambling Dens
Tuesday, 1. September 2015
There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall betting is against the law. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent area, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few controls constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; still, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are apparently needed to cross, there are means around this, as is true of most borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau casino, highlights 150 slot machines and 60 tables. The Naga river boat is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are 150 slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machine games and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the familiar table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive vacation and hotel building that features a number of conveniences in addition to the casino, which contains 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machine games and eighty eight gaming tables.
