Cambodia Gambling Dens
Tuesday, 11. December 2018
There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just across the border from next door Thailand, where gambling den wagering is not legal. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime area, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; however, financial sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and despite the fact visas are supposedly needed to pass, there are ways around this, as is real of many border crossings.
The original Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship gambling den, highlights 150 one armed bandits and 60 tables. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive vacation and hotel compound that features many luxuries accompanying the gambling den, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
